USMCA launches five-year review in July, forcing a large number of Chinese enterprises to accelerate the landing and construction of factories in Mexico

2026-06-24

The US Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) will begin its first five-year comprehensive review in July 2026, with further tightening of rules of origin for automobiles and electronics: Automotive regional value content requirement stays at 75%, while 70% of core steel and aluminum components must be sourced within North America.

A large number of Chinese manufacturing companies exporting to the United States are accelerating their factory layout in Mexico. In the first half of 2026, the number of new landing intention enterprises increased by 41% year-on-year, directly driving the continuous increase in orders for steel structure factories, clean rooms, and large-scale warehousing civil engineering projects.

Mexico, with zero tariffs and land logistics advantages, has officially surpassed China to become the largest source of imports for the United States, with bilateral trade exceeding 839.6 billion US dollars in 2024.
